This is a Wood Engraving / illustration / print that has been taken from a book dated 1894 and is ready for framing. Measures approximately 11 1/2 x 9 inches.
It was Scott, along with David Wilkie in 1817, who encouraged Allan to draw on episodes from Scottish history, rich in romance and drama, in an effort to revive the tradition of historical painting. Scott also appointed Allan as the first illustrator of the Waverley novels in 1820.
