Extremely rare, antique Rosenthal Bavarian porcelain trinket box hand-painted by Emily Phelps Haines. Painted with gold trim, beautiful and whimsical tuxedo and rose motif. Signed by artist & Rosenthal Bavaria mark on bottom consistent with marks used in 1900.
Emily Phelps Haines was an artist who was born in 1879 and lived in NJ. Ms. Haines bought ceramics which she embellished with her distinctive floral paintings and often included gilded details. Most works on the market by Emily Phelps Haines are dishes, bowls or cup and saucer sets. A trinket box such as this is extremely rare.
No chips or cracks. There is wear to gilding under the lid consistent with age and light use (see photos).
