Tailor Toyo Sukajan TT15086-119 Kōshō Special Edition

In honor of the Year of the Tiger, the animal of the Chinese zodiac in 2020, we have carefully selected tiger-patterned vintage souvenir jackets from among countless options. This special edition, limited to the Year of the Tiger, combines the tiger patterns from the front sides of two vintage jackets made in the early 1950s into one. It features a reversible design with tiger patterns as the main feature on both sides, making it a truly luxurious double A-side piece.

The front side depicts a tiger emerging from a bamboo forest. This combination is considered a classic, as the saying goes, Peonies with a Chinese lion, bamboo with a tiger. The gracefully extending bamboo and the tiger viewed from a diagonal angle are depicted in a magnificent composition reminiscent of Japanese painting. Furthermore, tiger patterns embroidered with red thread like this are extremely rare, and the beautiful gradation of green leaves and blue water splashes showcases the craftsmanship of the embroidery artisans of the time.

The reversible side, on the other hand, features a printed tiger pattern. This is not a modern machine print but a hand-printed design created by making individual printing blocks for each color and then carefully layering them by hand. This process requires an unimaginable amount of time and effort. As a result, only a very small number of these jackets were produced at the time, and their rarity makes them highly sought after in the vintage market, fetching astronomical prices. This is truly a masterpiece worthy of the name Koushou, the creator of the sukajan.
