First edition, first printing hardcover copy of Science & Civilization in China Volume 4: Physics & Physical Technology, Part 1: Physics by Joseph Needham (Cambridge University Press, 1962). A stunning and richly illustrated history book examining the science and technology developments originating in China, beginning in ancient times. Price-clipped jacket now protected in new (removable) archival sleeve but with mild rubbing/scuffing to faces and shelf wear around the edges - including chipping, creasing and small tears. Pictorial boards are straight and clean but with corners bumped. Binding material is faintly visible in a few gutters though spine is straight and binding remains quite firm on the whole. All pages clean and unmarked though tanned. See photos for condition.
