For sale is a single, extra-large stone made of central Texas chert / flint. Chert / flint stone such as this makes an excellent fire starter when struck with carbon steel or when scraped against a ferrocerium rod. But due to this rock's rare large size and elongated shape, this stone would be idea for knapping into a long spear point, axe blade or tomahawk head. Due to its weight, size and shape, it would also make a good hammer stone. Large stones such as this are hard to find.
Total weight is precisely 5 pounds 10 ounces. Though irregularly shaped, it is roughly boxed-shaped. At their longest points, the stone's sides measure approximately 6.5" x 4" x 3".
Because this is a natural product, it will likely contain fissures, inclusions or fractures Several are visible on the surface (see photos). This chert / flint rock has not been heat-treated or processed in any way.
