For sale is a single, extra-large stone made of central Texas chert / flint. Chert / flint stone such as this makes an excellent fire starter when struck with carbon steel or when scraped against a ferrocerium rod. But due to this rock's rare large size and shape, this stone would be idea for knapping into a large spear point, axe blade or tomahawk head. Due to its weight, size and shape, it would also make a good hammer stone.
Total weight is approximately 8 3/4 pounds. Though irregularly shaped, it is in the form of a crude triangle, with a rough tomahawk or axe head shape. At their longest points, the stone's sides measures approximately 6" x 7" x 8.5"and it is approximately 2.5" inches thick at its fattest.
This chert / flint rock has not been heat-treated or processed in any way. Because this is a natural product, it will likely contain fissures, inclusions or fractures. One long horizontal fracture appears on the front (see photos).
