This is an authentic vintage large terracotta pot by Navajo James Benally. It is 11” in diameter and 13.5” tall. It has no chips, breaks, or cracks. It has some minor scuffs from age and display. Inside were a thank you card and business card signed by him to the original owned.
ABOUT James Benally:
ORIGIN: Born to the Red Cheek People Clan, he lives on the Utah Strip of the Navajo Reservation.
ARTISTIC STYLE: He is a master of traditional single etch Navajo Pottery, utilizing various colors on red or white clay, including a distinctive Woodgrain Finish.
TECHNIQUES: Benally employs traditional Navajo etched pottery designs and has also incorporated Two-Tone etching.
DESIGN: His contemporary geometric patterns are inspired by traditional designs such as feathers, steps, rain, and various spiral shapes.
SIGNATURE: He signs each piece with his name and tribal affiliation, "Dine" or "Dineh" (meaning "The People").
