This is The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer in one volume; published in London and New York by George Routledge and Sons, circa 1880 (undated). Notes, glossary and abstract of the historical passages of the Life of Chaucer are by Thomas Tyrwhitt. Book is illustrated with full-page engravings by Edward Corbould. Cover boards are decorated linen with gold details; page edges are gilt. Pages: 586. Condition: corners are bumped and frayed; cover board front and spine have light soil; spine has short cracks at top and bottom (I have photographed the worst of it - see last photo); spine is tight; tissue covering first illustration is torn; owner's name on inside front cover. Pages are clean with no markings or foxing. This is an antique book in great condition for its age.
