About Hedwig “Hedi” Schoop 1906-1996

Schoop was a Swiss-born German artist, dance, painter and mostly famously, a ceramicist.

Schoop was at the forefront of mid- century (1940s-1950s) ceramic design and her work was often imitated. She designed and modeled almost every piece in her line. Her ceramic creations include vases, plates, trays, figurals, and other forms.

In 1933, Schoop fled Nazi Germany with her husband, composer Freidrich Hollander, and immigrated to Hollywood, Calif.
In 1940 she opened "Hedi Schoop Art Creations" a factory where pieces based on her designs were made. It would remain under that name throughout the life of the business.
