First struck in 1986, the Gold Eagle coin program is one of the world's most popular gold coin programs. The coins are available in 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, and 1oz sizes, with face values of $5, $10, $25, and $50, respectively. As gold prices began to drop in 1996, mintages increased. Once again mintages rose from 1996 to 1997. This year saw an increase of over 100,000 coins. Quality was still quite good, as evidenced by the MS70 percentage of almost 22%!
