The QNAP TL-R1200S-RP-US is a 12-bay JBOD storage enclosure that gives you an immediate path to expand the capacity of your existing storage server or workstation. It accepts twelve 3.5 or 2.5 inch SATA III 6 Gb/s drives and moves data through three mini-SAS ports, so large files travel quickly without tying up your network.
You can attach the enclosure to a QNAP NAS for cold or warm storage tiers, or connect it directly to a Windows, Linux or Ubuntu host when you need a sizeable external array for production data, backups or media libraries. Creative professionals who work with 4K video, administrators running virtual machines and small businesses with growing file shares all benefit from the extra room and high throughput that the mini-SAS interface delivers.
Inside the 2U rackmount chassis you will find two 70 mm cooling fans that pull heat away from your drives, and a redundant 250 W power supply that keeps the enclosure running even if one power module fails. The included QXP SATA expansion card and cables simplify installation, so you can start loading drives and building volumes right away.
The enclosure works with standard RAID 0, 1 and 5 modes. You can stripe drives for speed, mirror them for basic redundancy or create RAID 5 for a balance of protection and usable space. Because it operates as a JBOD, you can also pass individual drives through to your host system when that workflow makes more sense.
In day-to-day use, the TL-R1200S-RP-US feels transparent. Add it to a rack in a post-production studio, a surveillance server room or a small office data center and manage it through familiar QNAP or operating-system tools. When it is time to expand again, simply swap in larger drives or attach additional enclosures.
