This is the first time this authentic Wheaton College letterman's jacket letter "W" has been offered for sale in 67 years. It is new but vintage, never stitched, and has been carefully kept in a climate and humidity-controlled, non-smoking, pet-free environment out of sunlight. It looks as new as the day the multi-sport, big-time letterman got it in 1955. Why he never affixed it to a jacket, or even bought one, remains a mystery.
Orange color is vibrant and fibers are strong. The felt backing is incredibly still intact, even where the "W" connects near the top of the letter. The first photo is without flash and shows the natural colors. The third photo is with flash to highlight the brilliance of the orange in high lighting conditions.
The letterman's wife lovingly treasured it until she just recently died. Now it can be yours. It is truly a keepsake and would probably be best framed. Wheaton jacket that is dated from between the 1950s and 1960s is shown for illustrative purposes.
