A huge Red Pyrope Garnet for the locality from the Spruce Pine Mine, North Carolina. This locality produced some interesting specimens over the years including the noteworthy Pyrope Garnet inclusions flattened within a sheet of Mica. A knowledgeable collector who owned a property near the Crabtree Mine was sharing his mining experiences and exciting finds in the Carolinas. I acquired this gemstone from him. He said that this was by far the largest and best quality Garnet he had ever found at Spruce Pine. He showed me some others he had rough and uncut which really made me appreciate the exceptional quality.
