The movie follows a high school football team in a small Texas town where the sport is almost a religion. When the star quarterback, Lance Harbor (Paul Walker), gets injured, the team's hopes for a championship rest on the shoulders of the second-string quarterback, John Moxon (James Van Der Beek). Moxon, however, has a more academic focus and a different approach to the game, clashing with the tyrannical coach Kilmer (Jon Voight).
