Fascinating lot of original World War II-era U.S. Navy documents belonging to Seaman 1st Class Rex Liyon Grant. This collection includes multiple official typewritten orders and leave papers dating from September 6, 1941, to December 3, 1942. Documents include:

Official orders directing Grant from the Philadelphia Navy Yard to Norfolk, Virginia, and later to the USS Long Island.

Leave authorization from December 3, 1942, granting 10 days of absence.

Travel and reporting orders issued by U.S. Navy Recruiting Substation, St. Petersburg, Florida.

Original signatures and official typed Navy letterhead, including signatures of naval officers (Herbert I. Moyer, CWT, USN).

These documents capture a snapshot of a sailor’s movements and duties during the early years of WWII. Excellent historical references for military collectors, historians, or genealogy researchers.

The documents show typical age-related wear, including some fold lines, toning, and rusty staple marks. Overall very good
