Max Oertz – his name makes the eyes of classic yacht enthusiasts shine. The one from Neustadt/Holstein became world-famous. He was a born shipbuilder and made a name for himself through the impressive schooner yachts Meteor and Germania , which he designed for Emperor Wilhelm II and Gustav Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach. Furthermore, over 450 ships and yachts were built in his shipyard. Many of his perfectly crafted works have left their mark on yacht history.
But yacht building was only one area of his work. In 1909 he made a splash as an aircraft designer. Max Oertz developed the first aerodynamically sealed aircraft fuselage. The seaplane he developed for the Imperial Navy was the first flying boat with a self-stabilizing hull. Max Oertz was awarded the title of Doctor of Engineering for his outstanding contributions to aircraft manufacturing.
