This is a vintage porcelain ginger jar with an accompanying lid from Crown Staffordshire in the Chelsea Manor pattern. This pattern was manufactured between 1970-1975 and is discontinued. The jar and lid have a transfer printed and hand-painted floral/flower and fruit basket design with a thin border of blue and brown intertwined dots. The jar is fully backstamped on the base, the printed mark is shown in photo 10. This jar could be used in the kitchen to store herbs, spices, etc, or as a tea caddy for tea bags/leaves, coffee grounds, or for decorative use or as a gift. Size: 11.7cm height with the lid on approximately (4.60") 10.6cm height without the lid (4.17") 8.6cm maximum diameter approximately (3.38") The lidded ginger jar weighs 299g Condition: There are no chips, cracks or glaze-crazing present on the jar or the lid. There is a very small area of wear to the handpainted design on the lid, with a few, small and tiny factory and usage marks present, see photo 7, the worn area is ringed in red. There are a few dots of wear on the handpainted blue scroll on the jar, as shown in photo 8, the dots are ringed in white. There is some minor wear to the gilt trim on the jar rim in a few places, see photo 9 for an example. There are a few age and use-related marks/wear on the base ring, mentioned for accuracy.
