In the late 19th century, Alois Riffeser traveled around Europe selling wood carved figurines, which were acquired from a small village in the Alps. Soon after, the ANRI Company emerged in 1912 with Josef Anton Riffeser at the helm, carrying on the woodcarver's art tradition handed down through his family since the 17th century. The company was founded in Northern Italy and produced bottle stoppers, bottle openers, cork screws, and bar sets.
The goal of Anri was to capture the antiqued/aged look reminiscent of traditional craftsmanship. The figures are carved out of Linden wood and each piece is hand painted in special water colors. The figures have rougher cuts, left by the knife of the skilled master carvers.
