This is an absolutely gorgeous specimen of very-rare and extinct Sea Mollusk named Ammonite or Ammonoid. Stunning colored Opal-Like jewelry items are made from this iridescent organic gemstone, known as translucent Ammolite.
The beauty of this somewhat golden-beige fossil is hard to describe because it contains colors of orange-like red, blue and green in the sunlight. These renowned “Gemstones of the Sea” are estimated to be between 67 - 420 million years old. Because of its age, there are a few (very hard to see) imperfections in the gloss glaze coating. Also see a crack (pics) that was repaired, sealed and very strong. If no repairs, we’d list it for over 1200.
An iridescent Ammonite fossil of this size and beauty easily retails for over 1500. We consider this organic GEMSTONE as “Investment Grade”. It weighs just under 2 pounds and is 7 inches long by 5.3 inches wide. 1.6” depth.
