Broadhead Gurney & Co. Antique Pewter English Teapot. Featuring a squat melon shape with wriggle engraved work. It is fluted & seamed w/ hinged lid. There are 4 ball-shaped legs & worn wooden top.
Has some dings & indentations and the handle is mottled but works. It’s a lovely imperfect piece to display.
This antique pewter teapot is a unique historical addition to any collection. The company history, intricate engraving & age adds more interest.
Maker’s mark indicates Broadbead & Gurney & Co. w/ a small triangle. The Triangle indicates the year 1893 in Sheffield England according to research on metals & pewter.
From the 1840s Broadhead & Gurney & Sporle was one of the first companies to produce Britannia Metal commercially & put mechanised product-design in more homes than ever before.
