Unique studio pottery water cooler by Philip Barkdull has braided handles, imprinted patterns and a deep teal glaze. Lidded jar shape includes a water spout at front and cork bottom. About 9.5” tall, 10.5” diameter, 12.5” wide with spout. Artists mark lower right side with original foil sticker.
Founded in the early 60’s by Barkdull, along with Bob Kinsie and John Scott, Affiliated Craftsmen Studios was known for their massive wheel thrown and slip decorated pottery. Known as the California Craft movement, the designs harkened back to the Arts & Crafts era, while adding energetic freeform elements. Early pieces were not signed by individuals so this piece, displaying Phil Barkdull’s distinctive mark and name, is more likely from the 70’s.
CONDITION: slight crazing on inside floor and dirt/wear on cork bottom. Spout was untested so may not function. Otherwise very good.
