This gorgeous, 8 inch, thousand faces, square shaped, Japanese vase bears all male faces, at least one of which appears to be Samurai. It was imported to the west sometime after 1952, when Japan began appearing on pieces, alternative to Made in Japan.

This vase bears the Shimazu clan symbol (also used to indicate satsuma), and is decorated with moriage and gilt with gold. It is glazed on the inside, and has a crackleware glaze on the bottom and showing through on some other areas of the piece, such as the faces.

The vase has lost a little of its gilding, but is in beautiful condition otherwise. It bears some Japanese characters in white over the decoration on one side. I believe it begins with Japan, but I cannot make out the rest. If you are able to, please get in touch!
