Victorian Essex Brooch- Made in the 1800’s, a Crystal is cut as a Cabachon, a carving is made on the flat side like an Intaglio and a thin layer of mother of Pearl is painted on to produce a 3D effect. So the butterfly your see is carved and then painted with mother of pearl.
Essex glass, reverse crystal painted cabachon on an oval beaded brass setting with a working c clasp. These brooches were typically made in a brass setting.
