Antique footstool. One of the dowels that holds the cushion down is broken off in the hole and it does show signs of where consistent with age. The foot still still works as intended. I dont know the maker or exact age but based on the information I found online the roman numerals were used to match the cushion with the base before 1830. Very pretty piece of furniture history. Sold as is.
