Pair of Enamel Pendants, Pope John XXIII, 20th Century, Italy

This pair of pendants features a vibrant blue enamel design on both sides. The front depicts a profile of the Virgin Mary, rendered in a lighter shade of blue against a darker blue background. The larger pendant has a more detailed depiction with a silver-tone border, while the smaller pendant is simpler in design.

The reverse side of each pendant features an image of Pope John XXIII, also in blue enamel, indicating their religious significance.

These pendants were most likely made in Italy during the mid-20th century, given the subject matter and the style of the enamel work. Pope John XXIII's papacy (1958-1963) makes this timeframe particularly likely. They are typical of religious devotional items produced in that region and period.
