First American edition, second printing hardcover copy of The Manipulated Man by Esther Vilar (Farrar Straus & Giroux, 1973). This edition first published in 1972. Very rare early printing of the first US edition of this infamous nonfiction work on the topic of gender roles, sexuality and society as a whole. An ex-library copy with related stamps to title page and rear endpaper, blemishes to front endpaper from removed checkout slip form, and discoloration to boards & endpapers where jacket was once taped down. Jacket is now protected in new (removable) archival sleeve but with rubbing to faces and slight shelf wear around the edges. Small stains to back cover and rear liner flap. Board corners bumped. A few instances of mildly split binding and with cocked spine. Small stain to top edge of half title page. See photos for condition.
