Artist: George Canning Wales (1868-1940) was an American marine artist, naval architect and graduate of MIT. He began to study art before 1920 and had his first exhibition in 1921. He published “Etchings and Lithographs of American Ships” in 1927 and also produced vessel drawings used as illustrations in various publications by Howard I. Chapelle.
American Ships: Sloop Providence and John Paul Jones Speaking Flagship Alfred 24. This lithograph is an original and is the 15th in the series and dated 1927. It is signed by the artist in the lower right and may need some restoration and cleaning due to lithograph slippage within the matte and frame. Measurements are 24” long x 20.5” high.
