Victorian C1870'S Embossed art Noveau
tea pot or coffee pot by Reed and Barton with exceptional chased or embossed design.

There is a cartouche on both sides but neither contains a monogram. The pot stands about 12.5 inches tall and 9.5 inches wide measuring from the handle to the spout. There are a few spots of plate loss. The hinge is workable and fine but has more play in it than a brand new piece.

The book American Silver Plate by Dorothy Rainwater gives the date of the first Reed and Barton patent as Jan. 12th 1858 and the design was one of the Lobbed Pineapple designs similar to this R & B pattern. Another similarity is that the tea pot features the feet R & B used many years later on the Winthrop design. The tea pot is lovely and in good condition as shown in the pictures. Each of the lobbed panels features embossed or chased floral design set into an acid etched area. The floral design is repeated on each panels on the neck of the tea pot.
