Alberto Nassif has developed several lines of research, one has been studies on the State, where he made approaches to the corporate-union structure; has permanently worked on the political-electoral reforms that have served to shore up the process of transition to democracy; He made regional studies on elections and politics in Chihuahua and San Luis Potosí. For several years he has focused on comparative research on the types of democracy and presidentialism in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and South Africa. He participated in the teams that made the Country Report on citizenship and the Country Report on democracy in Mexico. Participate in the teaching line that deals with globalization problems and participate in the International Graduate College, a collaboration project between three Mexican and three German institutions, to develop research and teaching on the subject of future temporalities in Latin America.
