The Royal Wessex China Company is a British ceramics manufacturer known for producing high-quality fine china, especially tableware. However, there is limited detailed historical information available about the company itself compared to some of the more widely known English pottery manufacturers.

The Blue Willow design was introduced by Royal Wessex in the 1950's. While Royal Wessex was the only one to produce the pattern, their rendition is a classic. Blue Willow is a transferware pattern depicting a romanticized Asian landscape with pagodas, a bridge, a willow tree, and two doves (symbolizing a legend of star-crossed lovers). The design originated in England around 1780, inspired by chinoiserie, and was widely adopted by many pottery manufacturers.
