The ceramic activity has defined the history of the Manises, being internationally known for its earthenware and tiles made since the s. XIII to the present. The tilework and golden earthenware from the s. XIV to XVI, tiles and polychrome earthenware from the s. XIX, and the modernist ceramics of the first third of the s. XX. The city reached the maximum industrial development between 1920 and 1970.
Currently, 19 small industries, 9 individual artisans, 5 ceramic shops and 11 auxiliary companies related to ceramics remain active.
