Fabulous 19th century scarab brooch, likely offered to wealthy travelers enjoying their Grand Tour with a turn through Egypt to see the pyramids. The crown jewel at the center is a teal blue glazed scarab beetle. Radiating out from the faience (glazed ceramic) center are layers of fine braid and genuine turquoise cabochon accents highlighting the Egyptian Revival motif. The setting is oval with a slight dome and is designed to be worn as you choose, either as a pendant or a brooch. The silver purity is marked 1000 (greater than .925 sterling). Overall measurements are 45 mm from top to bottom and 38 mm parallel to the clasp. That translates to 1.75 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. This pin has been hand polished with soft brushes; No corrosive solvents or dips were used. The pendant bail and chain are .925 sterling silver and were added right here at WhyteWing to make the piece more accessible. The vintage chain measures approximately 18 inches in length with a spring clasp.**Our fine jewelry is always boxed for shipping.**
