SMART 1930s' OFF WHITE NUBBY FABRIC TILT/TOY HAT + BLACK GROSGRAINBAND

This is a very cute and enchanting off white nubby fabric tilt/toy hat from the 1930s'. The stiff crown is tall, tilts slightly forward and is surrounded by a wide band of black grosgrain, which ends in a bow at the back. There is an elastic band attached to the inside to keep the hat in a tilted position.The ‘Toy’ or ‘Doll’ hat was a very small hat that perched on the very front of the forehead. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation.This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hathas minimal soiling around the inside bottom of the hat (last photo), which is invisible when worn. Given its age, it is in wonderful vintage condition. It & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
