DAZZLING 1940s' BLACK STRAW WIDE BRIM HAT WITH FABRIC "CARNATIONS"

This is a showstopper 1940s' black straw wide brim hat!! It consists of a round crown surrounded by a magnificent wide brim. The brim's edges are slightly turned down for a more elegant look. Around the crown there is a black grosgrain band ending in bow at one side. Attached to the bow there is a bouquet of red and cream colored fabric "carnations" and green stems. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular. There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. There its a size label: 23, but the true inside measure is only 22”!!!This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
