MARVELOUS 1940s' BLACK STRAW TILT HAT WITH CREAM GROSGRAIN BAND/TASSELS + VEIL

This beautiful black straw tilt hat from the 1940's consists of a small, flat crown surrounded by a wide brim. Around the crown there is a creme and black colored grosgrain band that crisscrosses at the back and both ends stream downwards. There are 3 black and darker cream tassels attached...one at the back, and two at the front. There is also a beautiful full veil. At the back there is a grosgrain covered elastic ring to hold the hat in place.Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation.This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age.
