This beautiful dusty rose felt "RIDING" or "EQUESTRIAN" looking hat consists of a medium tall crown. The crown is flat at the top, and it extends at the back to form an elongated shape. There is a navy grosgrain bow at the front, plus there is a navy veil that ties ate the back and cascades downwards. There is also a Navy fabric covered elastic band to hold the hat in place. When the Riding Hat first appeared several hundred years ago it was a fashion accessory. The first fashionable style was the top hat, which was invented in 1797. It was primarily worn by foxhunters and is still worn for dressage. Milliners in the 1930s’ and 1940s’ were inspired by these sporting hats in designing and producing their own versions as pure fashion accessories, thus coming full circle.Label: Consumers' Protection Label. There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. PLEASE NOTE: the back brim has one small area where the stitching has come apart, but a previous owner seems to have glued it, so the tiny speck of glue is hidden under the veil. Please see photos 8 & 9. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
