Richard Petty drove this Plymouth Belvedere in the 1964 NASCAR season. It marks an important point in Petty’s career—pairing the first high-profile win for the young driver, while driving a new Plymouth with a powerful HEMI engine. Petty and the Belvedere won the sixth Daytona 500, and cinched the 1964 Grand National Championship. His busy schedule didn’t provide enough time to properly test the car on the track, resulting in a season riddled with technical difficulties. Despite the challenge, this season set Richard’s victories apart from his father’s accomplishments, while showing that he had the talent and drive to build on the Petty racing legacy.
