Victorian ART NOUVEAU Pin REPOUSSE Orchid Sterling Silver Amethyst Glass Brooch
This is my mystery piece. It has no markings whatsoever that I have ever been able to see. It has a lovely detailed orchid design with what I feel is a glass amethyst. I can see with a magnifying glass 3 very very tiny bubbles in one spot. There is some age wear to the glass on the surface. I couldn't exactly capture that in the pictures. The glass is NOT pristine. Pretty but not perfect. I do not believe this is aluminum - it is far too heavy a piece weighing 44.3 grams. I did not attempt to polish the entire piece but did a quick rub on some of the more accessible parts like the flower petals and frame. It does polish up nicely. I do realize that aluminum was used in jewelry from the 1890's thru say 1920's but every piece I've ever had was much much lighter. Please do not purchase this item based on it being sterling - purchase it because it is a very lovely example of the ART NOUVEAU era.
