Stunning St Clair vintage paperweight - a masterpiece of handcrafted art glass. It is marked with Joe St. Clair at the bottom, and features a multi-colored ribbon crimp design with controlled bubbles in between the ribbons. This is a classic design of his, in beautiful colors and showing his masterful design technique. The history of the St Clair family glass business began in the late 1800's. In 1888 John and Rosalie St. Clair came to the United States from Alsace-Lorraine France, a region with a long history of glass production.The family started their glass business in Elwood, Indiana around the turn of the century. Joe St Clair founded St Clair Glass in the 1940's, and after WWII started the tradition of the beautiful paperweights for which he is known. Joe passed in 1987, and at that time the family torch was taken up by nephew Joe Rice who founded what continues as The House of Glass.
