The Sutra is likely 40ft long, we stopped expanding it around 38ft for fear of damaging it. Translation on the front reads "Writing of Autumn Commander", or "Autumn General's Writing". I cannot say for certain how the family obtained it, only that it belonged to the Mitchell patriarch since his service in Asia, until his death when it passed to my mother in-law, and ultimately came into our possession.This stunning piece of history is a must-have for any collector of antique Japanese art.
