This handcrafted tea pot is decorated in the traditional blue and white Flying Phoenix transfer print style, known as Phoenix Ware. This design was popular in Japan between 1900 and 1945, primarily made for western export.
Unlike hand-painted designs, Phoenix Ware employs transfer printing, a technique that allows for consistent and intricate patterns.
Featured here is a wonderful “Karakusa Tendril” floral design, a decorative pattern that originated in China and is characterized by artful spirals that resemble vines. With a stylized rim design, that is commonly associated with Phoenix Ware. Similar to Chinese porcelain, Phoenix Ware typically features cobalt blue designs on a white background.
