The artist delicately painted Navajo children, medicine men, and women in their historic garb. Born in Alcester, SD in 1937, Swanson was an engineer who taught himself to paint as an adult. He began driving to the Navajo reservation near his home in Arizona, producing paintings in oil, watercolor, and gouache. Swanson was a member of the Cowboy Artists of America, a Signature Member of the American Watercolor Society, and a representative for the state of Arizona in the Local Legacy Program at the Library of Congress. He died in Prescott, AZ on December 17, 2004.#337-16-05
