Unique Handpainted and Handcarved Wooden Takahashi Reproduction Chipping Sparrow. This is a reproduction of the originals made by Japanese prisoners of war after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. This pin was made in the 1970's and is in great condition. One of the screws on the clasp is a little oxidized, see last pic. However, nobody will see it! The prisoners hand carved the wood, then painted them with watercolors, then applied 10 coats of lacquer to ensure they would last a long time. Each one is different. The legs are made of twisted copper. Truly a work of art that you can wear. This technique was copied in the 1970's to produce reproductions. The clasp is attached with screws; that's how you tell the reproductions from the originals, which were attached with push pins. (I have 2 originals, a Baltimore Oriole and a Red Cardinal for sale listed separately). Measures 2 long and 1 wide from branch to clasp. Ships from a smoke free/pet free home.
