ALLURING 1940s' BLACK FELT TILT HAT - POINTY CROWN/BRIM COVERED IN AQUA FEATHERS

This is an exquisite piece of millinery fashion history! This black felt tilt hat from the 1940s' consists of a low crown that ends in a point at the center top. The crown is surrounded by an upturned brim that is covered in beautiful aqua and brown feathers. There is a cap extension at the back to keep the hat in a tilted position. There are 2 thin felt bows on top of the crown at each side of the front. To complete this moist glamorous look there is a full veil, which can be tucked on top of the hat if so desired. This is an incredibly beautiful hat.Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. Label: NEW YORK CREATION - SIZE 22 (Side is not crucial for tilt hats, since they are to be worn on top of the head, slightly tilted.)The New York Dress Institute was formed in 1941. The label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous & wanted to support the New York Creation label & keep it competitive with French styles. Label is white/blue.This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age.
