First edition of Bain’s eloquent tribute to tobacco and the art of smoking. Small octavo, original suede with gilt titles to the front panel, patterned endpapers, top edge gilt with others untrimmed, tissue-guarded engraved frontispiece portrait of Sir Walter Raleigh who introduced tobacco to England, in-text illustrations, original yellow silk ribbon reading “Perfecto” bound in. In fine condition.

Perhaps the first book to appear in America as a sole tribute to tobacco, John Bain Jr.'s Tobacco in Song & Story contains a history of tobacco including its discovery and origin, poems about smoke, smoker's stories, tobacco facts, and brief narratives extolling the virtues and philosophy of smoking.
