Small octavo, original suede with gilt titles to the front panel, patterned endpapers, top edge gilt with others untrimmed, tissue-guarded engraved frontispiece portrait of Sir Walter Raleigh who introduced tobacco to England, in-text illustrations, original yellow silk ribbon reading “Perfecto” bound in. In fine condition.
Perhaps the first book to appear in America as a sole tribute to tobacco, John Bain Jr.'s Tobacco in Song & Story contains a history of tobacco including its discovery and origin, poems about smoke, smoker's stories, tobacco facts, and brief narratives extolling the virtues and philosophy of smoking.
