Rare 19th Century Georgian English Green 9” Dessert Plate by Ridgeway Pattern #2019, circa 1830.
Hand-painted in pastel green with grisaille fruit & leaves. Scalloped rims are scroll molded and gilt trimmed and raised beading.
Grisaille, pronounced 'griz-EYE', is a painting technique that has been used for hundreds of years in which the artist paints using a limited pallet of only neutral shades of one color, such as grey.
Here used in pastel green.
Customary in that period not to backstamp the pattern name, a simple #2019 is printed in red on the back. Clearly a period plate and highly regarded collectible. Excellent condition no chips, cracks or crazing.
