DAGOBERT WITH ROSE AND BLANCHE by Edward H Corbould

Story by Eugène Sue - The Wandering Jew

This is an illustration / print that has been taken from a book dated 1902 and is ready for framing. Measures approximately 11 x 8 1/2 inches. There is a story summary about the image on the attached rice paper.

Edward Henry Corbould, R.I. (5 December 1815 in London – 18 January 1905 in London) was a British artist, noted as a historical painter and watercolourist. Two figures cry out to each other across the Bering Straits. One is the Wandering Jew, the other his sister, Hérodiade. Wherever the Wandering Jew goes, the cholera epidemic follows in his wake. The siblings are condemned to wander the earth until the entire Rennepont family has disappeared from the earth, as Hérodiade's descendants are also the descendants of Marius de Rennepont, Huguenots persecuted under Louis XIV by the Jesuits. The siblings are compelled to eternally protect that family.
