The center of this antique serving dish features a few flowers, leaves, seed stalks and an unpretentious butterfly, or what you might find growing and flitting in an open field. There are no bright colors, no neatly arranged, showy flowers, no symmetrical balance. The floral border is a simple daisy-like vine. This is a fine example of Aesthetic Art, or Art for Art's sake, from the late Victorian period, circa 1880. The aesthetic also carries into the shape of the dish, which has a boat-shape with straight sides and an arched, pie-crimped fore and aft. A geometrical band surrounds the back edge. Size: 8 7/8 inches wide x 14½ inches long x 2¼ inches high. Manufactured by W. T. Copeland & Sons, Staffordshire, England. Backstamp is an embossed Copeland in upper case and B, M, Y, 80 . In very good condition with no issues.
