Black transferware plate in the VIRGINIA pattern by James and Ralph Clews, who operated in Cobridge, Staffordshire, between 1813 and 1834. The plate measures approximately 10.25 and the pattern and manufacture's mark are clearly displayed on the back side..
This is not a common pattern
It has historic value and an idenitcal plate is displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.. There are no chips or cracks. There is minor crazing and minor discoration due to age. There is also a
very
tiny spot where the clay is exposed, but it does not feel like a chip. See last phot
