c. 1940-50's Vintage Homer Laughlin Oval Platter 12” x 9.5” F42N6. Restaurant ware. Very thick, heavy. There are some signs of use and a crack in the glaze on the bottom. Doesn’t go through to the surface. Still serviceable and pretty.
Homer Laughlin and his brother Shakespeare built their first small pottery in East Liverpool, Ohio in 1871 using the local yellow clay to make pottery known as “yellow ware”. In 1872 the brothers built a two-kiln plant for making white ware. After a few failures, they perfected the operation and by 1874 the company was known as “Ohio Valley Pottery” and employed over 100 workers. In 1907 they built their fourth plant, in Newell, West Virginia. The company continues to operate there today. That’s over 145 years of American made tableware!
